Perth based musician Andrew Winton has been inspiring and entertaining audiences on both the west and east coasts of Australia. Combining exciting dobro and acoustic lap steel performances as well as lyrical vocals, he has proven to be an engaging and skillful songwriter.
Displaying a dynamic range of musical genres from roots, blues, bluegrass and pop, Andrew distills a highly entertaining show punctuated with humour, storytelling and guaranteed crowd interaction.
Andrew has been likened to Sting, Steely Dan and Ben Harper, with a percussive and fluid guitar style that can drive an audience for an entire show!
Andrew’s music is a range of blues, dynamic slide instrumentals, personal ballads and a dose of “contemporary suburban existentialist vaudeville humour”. Some have likened his voice to Sting in a Harry Manx state of mind. He plays a range of lap instruments including dobro, a 60-year-old Hawaiian guitar and the unique new 7 string acoustic lap guit/bass.
His concerts are high-energy presentations of original material and eclectic re-discoveries, punctuated with humour and stories.
He has had many festival tents completely on their feet slapping each other’s thighs, audience members guesting on ‘ugar’ horns and conducted assorted ‘community choreography’.
Working either solo or with his wife and dynamic vocalist Karen Winton (and sometimes their baby Rory!), he is often found with special guests like Peter Grayling, Lucky Oceans, Rod Vervest and Bob Thomson.
