Introduced in 1976, the Ovation / Adamas was born out of the same spirit of innovation that developed the Roundback. Adamas – is the Latin word for diamond in its native form, carbon. Kaman Aerospace used carbon fiber in components for satellites and supersonic aircrafts. Charlie Kaman realized that it would make an excellent soundboard material. And so the lab work began. When properly engineered, carbon fiber, or graphite, behaves very much like wood. The Adamas top is made of aerospace-grade graphite in long fibers, designed to respond like spruce. At one-third the weight of a spruce top, the Adamas soundboard responds quicker, speaks louder and vibrates longer.
