D-Tar piezo soundspots pickup, cymbal pickup piezo crystal D-TAR SOUNDSPOTS
PIEZO CRYSTAL PICKUP for CYMBAL

Manufacturers Details:
Hot SoundSpot™ - Cymbal
SoundSpots are ultra-sensitive transducer pickups suitable for stringed and non-stringed acoustic and ethnic instruments. Unlike other “dot-type” transducer pickups, each SoundSpot™ is hand ground to extremely fine tolerances. This process, along with the selection of materials, renders a pickup with a very thin surface that also maintains its strength and flexibility. The result is a transducer that is ultra-sensitive to an instrument’s surface vibrations and, therefore, is extremely natural and warm sounding.

• Ultra-sensitive transducer pickup
• Hand ground to extremely fine tolerances
• Versions available for most acoustic instruments
• Extremely natural and warm sounding
• High grade materials for strength and flexibility

Pickup
HOT SoundSpot Cymbal

Position
Ride cymbal: On the bell’s underside, directly beside the hole.
Crash cymbal: On the bell’s underside, approximately 1"(25mm) from the hole

Applying The Pickup
Ride cymbal: Using a piece of adhesive tape or gaffer’s tape, attach the HOT SoundSpot—Cymbal pickup, metal side to the cymbal, on the underside of the cymbal directly beside the hole. Press the tape firmly around the pickup disc (after the cymbal is screwed onto the stand, the felt washer will add additional pressure).

Crash cymbal: Prepare the cymbal by cleaning the bell’s underside with a piece of cloth. Stick a 1"(25mm) strip of double-sided adhesive tape approximately 1"(25mm) from the hole. (Note: When the cymbal is placed on its stand, the pickup must not touch the felt washer.) Press the pickup’s metal side against the double-stick adhesive tape. Use a strip of adhesive or gaffer’s tape to add further hold-down strength (remember, a crash cymbal does a lot of moving around!).

Jack
Attach the 1/4" jack to the cymbal stand with a pipe clip. Make sure that there is enough slack in the cord between the pickup and the mounting point on the stand so that the cord doesn’t affect the cymbal’s ability to freely rock around.

Usage Tips
For P.A. use, turn the bass down (most cymbals don’t produce a large volume of bass frequencies). Alter the treble and presence to suit your taste. Multiple cymbals can be connected in parallel. In addition, the output from the HOT SoundSpot—Cymbal pickup can be used to trigger many MIDI drum systems. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.
