Twin SoundSpot™ Classic
SoundSpots are ultra-sensitive transducer pickups suitable for stringed and non-stringed acoustic and ethnic instruments. Unlike other “dot-type” transducer pickups, each SoundSpot™ is hand ground to extremely fine tolerances. This process, along with the selection of materials, renders a pickup with a very thin surface that also maintains its strength and flexibility. The result is a transducer that is ultra-sensitive to an instrument’s surface vibrations and, therefore, is extremely natural and warm sounding.

Applying The Pickup
You can either apply the pickup discs permanently, or so that they can be easily removed. Using double-sided adhesive tape makes it easy to remove the pickups, and super glue (cyanoacrylate) creates a permanent bond. Using super glue also increases the output level because the pickups make direct contact with the bridge material. Regardless of which method you choose, mount the pickups so that their metal side faces the bridge.

Note: To prevent rattling sounds from making their way into the pickup, make sure that the wires leading to the pickups don’t contact any of the instrument’s surfaces.

Jack
The 1/4" jacks attach to the tailpiece by using the supplied self-adhesive dual-lock hook-and-loop strip.

Usage Tips
Bass amps are best suited for reproducing low frequencies, but some guitar amps and many keyboard amps are also capable of handling the extreme range. For the most natural sound, don’t turn the amp’s treble too high—especially if you mount the pickups with super glue. Using a preamp gives you greater control over the sound, especially if you are plugging into a P.A. system rather than an amplifier. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.

Applying The Pickup
Wedge the pickup disc into one of the large cutouts in the bridge. If there’s too much space for a snug fit, wedge a piece of veneer between the pickup and the points at which the pickup should contact the bridge. If the space is too small for the pickup, file a little bit of the bridge, check to see if the pickup fits, and repeat if necessary. Remember: Only file a small amount at a time. Note: To prevent rattling sounds from making their way into the pickup, make sure that the wire leading to the pickup doesn’t contact any of the instrument’s surfaces.

Usage Tips
Set your amp’s tone to suit your taste. This pickup is designed for full response regardless of whether you play arco (bowed) or pizzicato (plucked). Any full-range amp or P.A. system can be used with the BASS SoundSpot. However, the best frequency response will be obtained by using a buffering preamp with a high output impedance. Naturally, the low frequencies will require plenty of support, so larger speakers or enclosures tailored to emphasize low end are recommended. For convenient equalization or for P.A. or recording work, a direct box, is an excellent way to interface the pickup and other gear. For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as as the D-TAR Solstice or Equinox is suggested.
