D-Tar piezo soundspots pickup, piezo crystal D-TAR SOUNDSPOTS
PIEZO CRYSTAL PICKUP for BONGOS

Manufacturers Details:
Twin SoundSpot™ Classic
SoundSpots are ultra-sensitive transducer pickups suitable for stringed and non-stringed acoustic and ethnic instruments. Unlike other “dot-type” transducer pickups, each SoundSpot™ is hand ground to extremely fine tolerances. This process, along with the selection of materials, renders a pickup with a very thin surface that also maintains its strength and flexibility. The result is a transducer that is ultra-sensitive to an instrument’s surface vibrations and, therefore, is extremely natural and warm sounding.

• Ultra-sensitive transducer pickup
• Hand ground to extremely fine tolerances
• Versions available for most acoustic instruments
• Extremely natural and warm sounding
• High grade materials for strength and flexibility

Applying The Pickup
In general, the pickups should be affixed to the heads on the side farthest from you, making it less likely that you will inadvertently hit them. You’ll have to experiment with the best placement of the pickups, since your personal taste, playing style, and amplifier will all have a bearing on the final sound.

During testing, place a strip of fabric tape (adhesive or gaffer’s tape) over the pickup’s plastic side and then firmly press the tape’s edges to secure it. After you find the best location, permanent mounting is best done with double-stick tape.

Rough heads, especially those made of natural skin, need to be smoothed with fine sandpaper at the location where the pickup will be attached. This facilitates adhesion.

Jack
Use a dual-lock hook-and-loop strip to secure the 1/4" jack between the bongos, or attach the jack to the side of one bongo’s shell.

Usage Tips
Bongos can be played through most amplifiers, but you should increase the bass and decrease the treble for the most natural tone. Because the TWIN SoundSpot Classic is very sensitive, high treble settings can cause bongos to sound more like tablas (try it—you might like the effect!). For P.A. and recording applications, a high-quality direct box such as the D-Tar Solstice or Equinox is suggested.
